ROUTES TO GPX

About Routes to GPX

What is Routes to GPX?

Routes to GPX is a free online tool that converts Google Maps routes and KML files into GPX format. GPX (GPS Exchange Format) is the universal standard for GPS data, compatible with virtually all GPS devices and cycling computers.

Supported Input Formats

  • Google Maps Directions URLs - Copy any Google Maps directions link and paste it directly
  • KML Files - Export from Google My Maps (google.com/maps/d) and upload

Compatible Devices

GPX files from Routes to GPX work with:

  • Garmin Edge cycling computers
  • Garmin Forerunner and Fenix watches
  • Wahoo ELEMNT and ROAM
  • Hammerhead Karoo
  • Komoot
  • Strava
  • RideWithGPS
  • And virtually all other GPS devices

How It Works

Routes to GPX runs entirely in your browser using WebAssembly technology. When you paste a URL or upload a KML file:

  1. The route data is parsed locally in your browser
  2. Coordinates are extracted and converted to GPX format
  3. You can preview the route on an interactive map
  4. Download the GPX file directly to your device

No data is ever sent to a server. Your routes remain completely private.

Why Free?

Routes to GPX was built by outdoor enthusiasts who needed a simple, reliable way to transfer routes to GPS devices. We believe useful tools should be accessible to everyone, with no signup, no ads, and no data collection.

Open Source

Routes to GPX is built with open-source technology including Rust, WebAssembly, and MapLibre GL. The core conversion engine is fast, accurate, and runs entirely client-side.
